Chinese Dance - Lesson 1

Today we are at the 福建会馆 for our first Chinese Dance Lesson.

Mummy choose Chinese dance over ballet is because we have observed many adult ballet dancers tend to have fatter thighs and they also tend to walk with feet facing out 45 degrees (erm.. like a penguin). Mummy believe that as ballet emphasizes a lot on balancing on their tip of toes (En pointe), some children may be using the wrong muscles to try to balance themselves and this may result in the way their muscles grow.

The purpose of attending dance lesson is really for flexibility, confidence, poise, coordination and elegance. I think Chinese Dance would be less painful and more fun than ballet.

Today all children are first made to try on the dance outfit. 杨老师 also drew her footprint to customise made her dance shoes. Kaelyn was so happy after she put on her skirted leotard. See she kept jumping and looking at herself in the mirror.

As she like her leotard so much, she seems to forget her fear and has became less clingy. Phew! She smiled happily when mummy took her photos.

After all the logistics issues are settled, we head to the dance room for class. Teacher demonstrated some stretching techniques which we need to practice at home and also the dance steps.

Kaelyn was overly excited by her leotard and was having a lot of fun "skating" around with her socks. Hopefully she'll be able to catch up in class as parents are not allowed to sit in from the next lesson onwards.

Growing Up Gifted (GUG) - Lesson 2

Today Teacher Aze is not around. An experienced replacement teacher took over the class. Today we learn alphabet B. B is represented by a bear call Bubba Bear who likes to eat honey. Teacher also teaches children 3 words eg. ball, balloon and banana.

I think teacher was directing this to parents that all of us should re-learn the word banana.. although it is spelt as ba-na-na...it should be pronounced as be-na-ne. hahaha...

Today 丹丹老师 teaches children about 静电 (static electricity). She uses a balloon to rub against her hair repeatly and soon strands of hair stand when she lift up the balloon. All children see their own hair stand while teacher try the experiment on them. Next she show how a plate of shredded papers get stick on the balloon. All children get a balloon and a plate of shredded paper to try it on their own.

After a 5 min break, children were ushered to the music room for some stimulating song and dance. A music teacher who played the keyboard really well joined in the class. The lesson ended with the great songs.

The first 2 lessons has quite impressed mummy. Mummy has learnt new things as well. GUG classes has covered pretty well on Phonics, Arts & Craft, Music & Movement, Science and Mandarin. Hope Kaelyn enjoy as much as I do.

TV Addict

Kaelyn is such a TV addict... Once she step into the house, she will say
"On the lights, on the TV!"

She learnt this song...do you know which drama is this?

She likes the lead actor (戴阳天) and actress (欧萱) so much...sometimes she will go..
"小杯,剑虹, I love you soooo much..." hahaha..

Miss Sunny Cool

Daddy bought her this really cool sun glasses...

Growing Up Gifted (GUG) - Lesson 1

Initially Mummy wanted to register Kaelyn for the Little Neuro Tree class in place of Shichida. Upon friend's recommendation, we gave GUG a try.

12 children of her age was grouped under the kids playclub. It is a 1.5-hr lesson conducted in English & Mandarin. Teacher Aze started the class by singing some familiar songs with action. Thereafter, she uses the zoophonics method to introduce the alphabet A. A (pronounce as "air")is Allie the Alligator was presented in an animated way. She also go in depth about spider and spider web. Teacher Aze uses simple materials to show how to create a spider. The children get a chance to create their own spider using the same materials.

The children had 5 mins break and then 丹丹老师 or 李老师 took over the class. She uses a balloon to conduct her class. Teacher blow the balloon and explain to children why the balloon ballooned and what is now inside the balloon. With this, she managed to introduce some Chinese words - 气球 and 吹. She also go through the strokes that form 气. The children had lots of fun when teacher blow bubbles in class. Children were given simple homework to complete.

Potty Training

We have kept the baby cot and bought Kaelyn a mattress sometime in Dec.  Since then we've been thinking if we should start potty training at night. So far no 'accident' when she nap in the afternoon.  However, Mummy observed that her diaper is still wet & heavy in the morning so we thought she is still not ready.  We didn't get started till 2 days ago.

Kaelyn refused to put on her diaper.  She said:
"彭老师说不可以穿 diaper 了"
"I big girl ... I nursery one already, you know?"

Okay, we let her be diaper-less for the first night.  At 3 am, she crawled up our bed.  Quickly we asked her to pee.  Honestly, mummy was quite worried that she would wet our bed.  Luckily throughout the night, she was dry.  Mummy praised Kaelyn and rewarded her with ice-cream .  She was so happy and proud!

On the 2nd night she crawled up our bed around 5 am.  We allow her to sleep with us only after she emptied her bladder.  She was dry till she wakes up at 7.30 am.

A great start is half a battle won.. Fingers crossed!!

Last time to wear this...

Starting 2010 Jan, Kaelyn must wear the new uniform...  Today is the last time she's wearing this old uniform.  See her first (18 months old) and last time (3 years , 2 months old) she's wearing this uniform... hahaha.. vast difference..

When I show Kaelyn this blog, she asked "Who cut my hair?"  hahaha....Funny girl!

Shichida - Last Lesson

Today is the last lesson for Kaelyn at The Shichida Method..She has been in this course for the last 1.5 years and has benefited from the activities like linking memory (recite 40 cards in order), flash memory, speed reading, flash cards, IQ blocks & puzzle, hand-eye coordination activites (use of the pencil, chopsticks etc), intuition activites, foreign languages (Spanish, French, Japanese, Malay), simple maths and logical activites.

Many people say that children have the greatest potential for developing right brain from 0-6 years old and so we will not be stopping at this last lesson.  Mummy has decided to let her attend other enrichment programmes and hence we've to find a cheaper alternative for her brain training...

With her are Teacher Mei Hui, Jerome (Centre) and Jimmy (Right).

Miss Act Cool

Kaelyn decided to act cool today... she put on the hoodie on her own and walked down the shopping mall with her hands in the pocket.  She purposely looked away when I took her photographs... hahaha...

X'mas Show - Narnia, The Musical

Kaelyn is at Forum The Shopping Mall to catch the Narnia show by Kids Performing Repertory Theatre.  Mummy is very impressed with the little stage performers who are so confident and at ease on stage...

The oldest performer is 15 years old.  The girl who acted as Lucy is about 8 years old and she is not at all stage fright.
